West Bend News: History & Community
West Bend News is a community newspaper headquartered in Antwerp, Ohio, covering Paulding County towns directly (Paulding, Antwerp, Oakwood, Payne, Grover Hill) rather than as a regional afterthought. This is its “History & Community” category — an ongoing feed, not a fixed document, so what’s there will keep changing.
An RSS feed is available for monitoring new posts. The paper’s dedicated “Paulding County Ohio” tag page is a related, even more targeted entry point.
Two kinds of content show up there, worth treating differently:
- Institutional and place history — clearly in scope: recent examples include Paulding’s new downtown Historic District sign, the Paulding Veterans Memorial dedication, and the Huber Opera House’s restoration grant. Melinda Krick’s recurring column, “Years Ago in Paulding County,” compiles historical newspaper excerpts — she’s the same editor credited in this archive’s Visions of Paulding County, Volume 1 (2000), making her column a direct continuation of that same kind of work and a strong candidate for regular reference.
- Personal profiles — pieces like Mark Holtsberry’s “Military History in Paulding County” series (individual veteran biographies) read closer to biography or genealogy than county history. Whether to draw on these is the same open scope question as this archive’s vital-records entries (obituary/census/mortality indexes) — not decided separately here.
Nothing from this feed has been reviewed or transcribed into this archive yet — if you spot something worth pulling in, send it over the same way as anything else.
